Last night saw our 2nd PDI competition of the season. Our judge for the evening was Graham Currey a member of South Manchester Camera Club. Graham advised he would be judging & viewing the images as he saw them on the night, rather than if he’d seen similar before. His winning images would be the ones, he would have printed and put on his wall, and revealed he would have a twist at the end.

Graham was presented with 42 images, which he’d had a quick look at on the laptop just before the evening started, and certainly with one of the images he questioned if the projector was calibrated as the image was different on the laptop screen, to the one being viewed from the projector. On a lot of images sensor spots were noticed, which Graham felt was important that either the sensor should be cleaned or that the spots should be cloned out before being presented for judging. He also was a big believer that there should be equal separation around the image, rather than one side being too close or in some cases touching the edge. After a lot of constructive criticism, he held back 18 images to begin with. After another look at all 18 images, he then whittled them down to 10, and then down to 5. The remaining 5 were 2 landscapes, 1 nature, 1 portrait & 1 composite. Graham again whittled these down to his final 3, 1 landscape, 1 nature & 1 composite. Graham’s twist for the evening was he asked the audience to give a show of hands on the final 3 which they would vote as their particular winning image. The show of hands went to the landscape, the composite was 2nd and the nature was 3rd. Graham revealed his winning order, all 3 scored 20, but the overall winner was the landscape taken by Jackie Robinson, 2nd was the nature image taken by Lisa Mullins & 3rd was the composite again taken by Jackie. Congratulations to all who took part.
