Our judge for the last print competition of the season was Robert Millin from Wigan 10. His results would determine, not only print worker, but also club worker for this year. He was presented with 49 images. His scores ranged from 13 up to 20. He held back 16 images and eventually scored 4 images the full 20 marks. Overall winner was Cheetah With Cub taken by Rob Hockney.

Robert is an award winning photographer with a string of letters behind his name and gaining more all the time. So for the 2nd half of the evening Robert gave us a presentation of A Competition Addict which included some panels he had put together for various competitions including PSA (Photographic Society of America). He explained the different star ratings to gain recognition of photographic achievment, and the best ways to display the panels. His most recent SPSA (silver award) panel was on travel, all images were taken in Turkey. He wanted his portrait images to be of people in their environment and that they should tell a story. A panel has to be put together for it to work. Starting with a strong image in the middle. For him a landscape format works better for a panel than portrait, and all images are best to be processed in the same or similar way, so they all gelled together. Certainly food for thought and something to aspire to even if only in a small way.
