Hi everyone, my son has just fallen victim (almost) to the latest form of scamming going about (we turned his phone off but I’m still not sure if we’ve got off lightly).

It’s called Ransomware which basically means that whilst surfing the net you will be hit by a page that appears purporting to come from the Police or any other official organisation claiming that you have images on your PC/MAC/Phone relating to terrorism/Child porn or anything else they can scare you with, normally with an accompanying fine which you are told to pay by going on a link.

This isn’t new but what is is that they can actually encrypt some of your computer, or worse they can actually put stuff on. I don’t know the right way to go about solving this yet but UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES pay the money by clicking on their link as they will then have your card details and not necessarily release you from their threat.

This is a particularly hideous form of Malware so my advice is have a look online and make sure your devices are protected.

Here is a link to some software that I think at first glance might be worth the money, but don’t take my word for it – find out for yourself before they get hold of you.

Good luck, Danny
