A very select band of just two made it out of the starting blocks for the first of the new club photo shoots. Meeting at 9am in Poynton CC car park we drove towards Liverpool in glorious sunshine only to be greeted by thick fog when we finally arrived in the car park at Liverpool One. Undaunted by conditions not dissimilar to those encountered on Stannage for the Simon Butterworth workshop our intrepid photographers dug in and were treated to some great atmospheric shots across the Mersey to Birkenhead somewhat reminiscent of similar, but inferior, images of Venice. Warmed by coffee and conversation, conditions dictated indoor shooting so we set off on a tour of Liverpool’s many such locations, all free, visiting first the new museum on the waterfront and then heading off for several hours of photography in the fantastic, newly refurbished Liverpool Library (that of Hogwarts staircases and Escher fame). Several hundred frames later and with winning images in the bag we made a brief visit to the Walker Art Gallery next door before returning to the Clubhouse by 6pm.

Why was the turn out so poor for this event? Well, we’ve learned that Wednesday is a bad choice of weekday and thus will not be repeated. Perhaps the venue did not excite, despite being absolutely fabulous. Perhaps life got in the way. What ever the reasons, if this initiative is to survive to encourage and enable our members to get out there and take more images it needs your participation.

The next Photo shoot is on the weekend of Saturday or Sunday 12/13th April. The venue, and day, are to be agreed so this is an opportunity for everyone to come forward with their own favourite and especially  for those of you who have to work for a living to enjoy a days photography. How about daffodils? a rugby match? or my own particularly favourite, Grouse shooting on Derwent Edge? Please let it be known where you want to go.
