Last night saw our 1st competition of the season. The 1st of 4 Pdi & 3 print competitions we have through out the year. Our judge for the evening was Conor Molloy President of Macclesfield Camera Club, who’s been involved in photography for the last 5 years. He’s also a relatively recent graduate from LCPU judging school, having only judged officially 1 previous time. We didn’t have the biggest of entries, only 40 images were on show, but a good selection of genres were projected. Conor knocked quite a few for not being as sharp as they should be, also some for being noisey and others for cluttered backgrounds. That being said he held 11 out of the 40 back. He gave 3 images the full 20 points, 1 landscape, 1 portrait and the otherall winner a nature image which was taken by Paul Matthews. As we finished slightly before time, Conor was more than happy to have an informal run through of the images again, where the authors if they wanted to, could either explain how and where the image was taken, and if they wanted could also pick Conor up on some of the criticisms he gave to their image! Noel closed the evening and thanked Conor for a very informative evening and commented it was a brave man to allow people to comment on his judging.
